She had to get out of the cabin. Away from her mother Mia, and Aunt Caroline. Away from people. Worry and sadness gushed out of them even though they tried to cover it with fake holiday cheer.
"Santa's gonna bring me presents? Are you kidding? I'm nine, not five," she grumbled to herself.
A loud crack echoed through the hall as the bones in his jaw shattered. Students turned just in time to see blood spray from his mangled lips.
“Freak!” the other boy taunted, hitting him again. Bile rose in his throat with each blow to his stomach. Frantically Alaric struggled to free himself from the two boys holding his arms...
“Hey Cuz, you know a ton of cops. They’ll understand if I smothered that boy in his sleep, right?” Lisa said as she plopped onto the deck chair next to Jean. They heard a snicker. She glared at a man reading a book with a familiar photo on the back. Jean made a slashing motion with her finger. “What? Fanboy here has been on the same page for the last hour. Book signings are tomorrow buddy, but if you buy us a couple of drinks, maybe you can get yours signed early.” she said winking at the man.
